3 Simple Ways to Grow Your Dental Practice in 2022

October 15, 2021

Throughout the American healthcare industry many businesses are shaking up operations and considering new services and ways of working—and dental clinics are no exception.

If you count yourself among that number, here are three essential things to consider for the year to come.

Networking for success

You operate in what tends to be a saturated market. How you choose to differentiate your dental clinic from your competitors is extremely important. For a new clinic—or one hoping to expand—it can sometimes feel like running up against a brick wall.

One solution? Networking. Find owners and marketing professionals in your industry and region who have experience breaking out from the pack—and have a conversation. Exchange ideas. Talk about potential collaborations. You might be surprised by how open and generous people are when you approach them with respect for their expertise. And who knows? You might very well learn something about digital marketing or promotions that proves to be a key avenue for you to grow your presence and care out a greater share of local business.

Truly understand your customer

Dental clinics thrive and succeed based almost entirely upon service. So obviously customer feedback is an essential compass for figuring out when you’re going in the right direction with your clinic offerings—and when you need to retrace your steps and try a different route.

That said, it’s important to remember that the customers who give feedback—good or not-so-good—are a self-selecting cohort. To avoid overcorrection or missing the forest for the trees, you must crossreference any such feedback against your statements, inventory, and cashflow. Is there a mismatch between what your customers say is valuable to them and what is brings in the most money? Is a product that sells in large numbers actually less profitable than a slower, steadier selling product? (If so, is there a way to “hook” the faster selling product with other items to capitalize on its popularity?)

This kind of analysis can help you to zero in on what it is that your clinic does best—and what will actually keep the doors open.

Hire with care

Your staff will make or break your clinic. The old saying that a company’s greatest asset is its people almost always rings true, but it’s doubly so in a service-based industry like dental healthcare.

It is important to remain mindful of this as you manage and expand your own practice. As much as is possible with the talent available to you, weigh a person’s personality and “beside manner” as well as education and skillset. Remember, from the moment your clients walk into your clinic to the moment they leave, every member of staff involved will play a role in whether that experience within is positive or negative. With any member of staff having so much to offer to the customer experience, an individual with a natural flair for customer service and a willingness to go the extra mile will make an enormous difference over time.

Fund your future

Need a bit of a funding assist to get the working capital necessary to evolve your clinic? A small business loan or business line of credit can help make your vision for tomorrow a reality today. Idea Financial, for example, offers up to $250,000 in working capital with a quick, hassle-free application and same day approval.
